Mont Aragnascu, Cuttoli-Corticiatto

A firm favourite with the locals, this small but perfectly formed summit walk can be done in around 3 hours, at 888m, you will have a birdseye view of the whole of the Ajaccio Golfe.

“Even the local schools do this walk, and you can see why. Panoramic views of the Golf d’Ajaccio are what this is about.”

For this walk you will need to drive to the village of CUTTOLI CORTICIATTO. Take a sharp hairpin bend on your right opposite CHEZ PASCALE. Drive to the COL SAN PEDRU and park up.

8.5km, 3h00, +/-500m, YELLOW

PLEASE NOTE: The terrain is high and exposed, watch the weather. Return to CUTTOLI could be tricky for those with vertigo!

  • Parking spot (to the fountain) 1h10 / 3km

With your back to the village, take the road that continues downhill from the COL SAN PEDRU.  After approximately 100m you will see the path gently climbing into the maquis on your right, just after a house. The path climbs more or less gently until you reach a stone hut at FONTAINE DE TARDIVAJA.

  • House (to Monte Aragnascu) 0h35 / 1km

At the house, the path takes a distinct left turn, then soon opens up into a clearer area with chestnut trees where the path climbs steeper. After the climb, you reach a junction and head left under trees before the views open up over the AJACCIO GOLFE.  The summit is a little scamble, there is a plateau at the summit that is a great picnic spot.

  • Monte Aragnascu (to Parking Spot) 1h25 / 4km

With your back to the summit, retrace your steps, under the trees and continue straight on ignoring the junction that you came in from earlier. The path climbs and falls on a wide and easy to follow path, relatively gently either side of the ridge line so that you can enjoy the panorama, look behind you to see the fabulous views out over the Golfe.  After around 2km on the heights, the path starts dropping down as the hill falls away steeply to your left. The path narrows before it again levels out to a gentle downhill stroll, sometimes on a ledge, for a further 1km until the steep descent through the trees to the Col you left earlier.
