Strada Vecchia to Paragan, Bonifacio

A Strada Vecchia is a great stroll along the clifftops from BONIFACIO. The first section takes you on the old pilgrim route to La Trinité Hermitage and to the PARAGAN beach, you then double back to the cove at FAZZIO, before skirting around the cliffs to the MADONETTE lighthouse, with views back to BONIFACIO.

“Clifftop walking with views to Sardinia, Bonifacio and the Madonetta lighthouse, a fantastic stroll for anyone loving the sea breeze, any time of year”

  • Bonifacio harbour (to Plage de Paragan) 1h00 / 3km

With your back to the harbour, take the road out of town towards PORTO VECCHIO, after about 250m you will see a SERVICE STATION, then a campsite, turn left here (signposted PLAGE DE PARAGON and SENTIER DES PLAGES) following the yellow way-marks and square posts for the Strada Vecchia. The cobbled mule track passes initially through light woodland and the path is enclosed by white stone walls, typical of the area. You will reach a junction of paths after approx 2km, continue straight ahead keeping to the track. After a further 500m you reach another path that heads off to the left (this you will take later after the beach). Keep straight ahead for PARAGAN beach.

  • Plage de Paragan (to La Madonette) 1h15 / 3.5km

From the far end of PARAGAN beach, take the rising mule track with YELLOW up the valley, after 700m, you turn right, you will see a crumbled BARACCU (round stone shepherds hut) along the path. Continue on this path all the way along this other valley before dropping down the white cliffs to the creak and beach at FAZZIO. Take the path on the other end of the beach up the valley again, the path climbs gently before switching back right towards the sea, with views over the ILE DE FAZZIO. As the path rounds the headland views now again open up towards SARDINIA and BONIFACIO. You follow the coastal path towards the Lighthouse LA MADONETTE.

  • La Madonette (to Bonifacio harbour) 1h15 / 3.5km

When roughly level with the lighthouse, continue along the path, seemingly inland, towards the left. You soon have views of BONIFACIO harbour to your right before heading into woodland, and meeting the mule track you were on earlier. Turn right here, (you will see a low post) keeping along this track between stone walls, typical of the area, before dropping down to the main road into town by the campsite. Turn right at the road, pass the service station and the harbour is in front of you.
