Tour d’Ominga, Cargese

This Genoese tower is called the tour d’OMIGNA, much lower than either of its neighbours, the path is coastal and easygoing and can be done in a couple of hours.  The tower has been restored by the Conservatoire du Littoral and the path is well trodden.

“Great Sunday coastal walking, another well renovated tower, team it with a visit to the village of Cargese.”

9km, 2h30, +220m, -160m. No marks some low posts and a distinct path.

FOOD: CARGESE, café on beach. WATER: NONE

  • Plage de Pero (to the junction for plage de Chiuni) 0h30

Take the road that drops down to PLAGE DE PERO pass the HOTEL TA KLADIA head up the hill keeping around to the left. From the gate, head left down the concrete steps towards the beach, turn right through another gate before reaching the coast. The path initially follows the coast before heading slightly inland, crossing an open pasture area, before entering a shady path between stone walls.  After 20 minutes, the path takes a sharp left turn, remaining between stone walls but feeling more open before opening out onto the presqu’ile, after a gate, a path climbs to your right signposted CHIUNI.

  • Plage de Chiuni junction (to tower) 1h15.

The path climbs steeply at first to cross the headland, you soon after around 100m meet the path coming in from a gate on your right, turn left, hugging the coast. After a just over a km, the path passes a spring.

Keep on the path all the way to the end of the headland. To your right across the bay you can see the TOUR D’ORCHINU and behind it the TOUR DE TURGHIA on the red CAPO ROSSU.

You will see the TOUR D’OMIGNA come into view after approx 2km. Climb the tower and soak up the views.

  • Tour d’Omigna (to starting point) 1h15

With your back to the tower, head downhill and continue straight ahead when you climb, ignoring the path you came here on. The path snakes through the maquis, to a stone house with bread oven that has been restored by the Conservatoire.

Then continues on through the maquis to the end back to the gate where you turned uphill earlier. Retrace your steps to where you are parked.
