Madonnuccia, Vizzavona

“A loop walk at Vizzavona on the trail of the Femme Perdue.”

7km / 3h00 / +/-520m / YELLOW & CAIRNS

  • Col de Vizzavona (to the Bergeries des Pozzi) 0h45 / 2km

Park at the large parking area, at the COL DE VIZZAVONA. Cross the road towards the refreshment hut / paillotte and take the road that goes uphill to the right of this hut. This tarmac road leads up to a pylon, point 1198. Once at the end of the road, cross the fence using the stile. Follow the path that goes left along the fence and up in switchbacks (waymarked yellow) towards the POZZI sheepfolds. Be careful, there are many paths that lead off so be attentative to the waymarks. The path arrives at a Beech wood before reaching the plateau where several sheepfolds were built. There is a spring just before the bergeries. Do not continue in poor visibility or in very windy conditions as the next section is exposed.

  • Bergeries des Pozzi (to Madonuccia ridge) 0h30 / 1km

At the second sheepfold (turn left), and head steeply uphill (northwest). The path climbs into the scree to join the small ridge (you will find some cairns). Once on the flat plateau area look back towards BOCOGNANO, cross the plateau and follow the direction to the west, along the path that drops down into the alder bushes. The trail rises gradually before joining a large rock in ridge line at MADONUCCIA.

  • Madonuccia (to GR20/Femme perdue junction) 1h15/ 3km

Cross to the other side of the ridge and follow the yellow waymarked path that goes steeply downhill into the beech forest. There are then yellow waymarks. The trail descends into the forest sometimes steeply (many trees have fallen on the trail), and then continue on a zig zagging path. The trail ends at a broken sign post, on a flatter path that follows left along the contour line, joins an area planted with fir before joining a forest track where you head left again.

  • GR20/Femme Perdu (to road) 0h30 / 1km

Take a left. After a few hundred meters, the track ends and a path heads right then left and signposted LA FOCE to the right and follows an easy underfoot path near LA HALTE DU PRINCE & HÔTEL MONTE D’ORO.
