“A great ramble on the GR20 from Calenzana.”

7km / 3h00 / +/-430m / YELLOW & VIOLET & RED WHITE

Take the road to Calenzana. Entering the village, continue to the car park of the town hall (or the church just below).

  • Calenzana (to fontaine di ORTIVINTI) 0h45 / 2km

Park at the Mairie. From the car park, head towards the town hall, following the RED WHITE and ORANGE markings. Pass next to the post office and go up the alley on the left, at the crossroads turn right and follow the alley for about 80m and then follow the alley that goes up towards the ORATOIRE DE ST ANTOINE (on the left) and a spring (on the right), the GR20 begins here. A beautiful mule track gradually climbs towards at first in medium scrubland and then a panorama opens up towards the ORTIVINTI FOUNTAIN (1.5km)

  • Fontaine di ORTIVINTI (to SAMBUCCU Stream junction) 0h45/ 2km

Continue on the GR20 for another 550m, and leaving the TRA MARE E MONTI on the right, follow the RED WHITE markings and climb again another 400m to the pass at 616m under the CAPU DI U RAVALENTE. Beautiful panorama of CALENZANA and the FIGARELLA valley.

Start a small descent and follow the balcony path for about 1km to the SAMBUCCU STREAM.

  • Sambuccu Stream junction(to Calenzana) 1h30/ 3km

At the junction with a track, leave the GR20 and take the track that goes up sharp left (galvanized fence and gate), go through the gate and pass a bergerie (on your left) and a spring (on your right) follow the track and then across the field to the pass (about 200m). There are few signs.

Arriving at the pass, and a slight flat area, the path is not very visible with an old BOUCLE DE PRATU sign (PURPLE markings) abandonned on the grass. Pass through the fence (handmade cattle gate) and start the steep descent to the left (beautiful panorama of the bay of CALVI). Follow the markings between PURPLE and then after a flat saddle YELLOW with CALENZANA below. The descent is quite steep at times. After 1.5km, you rejoin the GR20, turn right and return to the village and its lively life in all seasons.
