Off the beaten track towards Scandola

- Galeria (to Croce di Porcu Liccatu) 1h15 / 4km
Take the small road leading from the church to the gîte (mountain refuge). After 750m, turn right and cross the concrete bridge. After a few meters, turn left (FOCOLARA sign) following the YELLOW markers. Follow this path which climbs steeply along the ridge with some steep sections to the pass. Turn right for the summit of CROCE DI PORCU LICCATU (425m) with its three crosses.

From the pass, the path is easy to follow and descends with a stunning panorama of the SCANDOLA nature reserve. After the descent and the junction for the FOCOLARA sheepfolds (200m), the path begins its ascent through dense maquis (strawberry trees and holm oaks), up to BOCCA di FUATA (459m) following old stone walls and traces of charcoal burners of yesteryear (panoramic view of FOCOLARA halfway up). You arrive at the pass, with its threshing floor and ruined sheepfold, and the magnificent view of Girolata and the Gulf of Porto.

Retrace your steps. Take the trail marked in YELLOW which descends steeply towards the Focolara sheepfolds (approx. 30 min). From there, you can admire the ruins and the centuries-old olive tree and reach the bay of the same name (1.5 hours round trip, +/- 175 m) by following a ridge path that descends through strawberry trees to the coast; the beach is wild. From the sheepfolds, take the trail uphill towards Croce di Porcu Liccatu with its three distinctive crosses and its view of Galeria (just to the left of the trail). From there, rejoin the trail and traverse towards the eastern slope where the path descends steeply through the rocky escarpments you crossed this morning, before leveling out slightly and following the ridge to Galeria. The trail joins a road; turn right, then left, and continue along the road you’ve already taken towards the village center.
