Corsica Walks Blog

Welcome to our walking in Corsica blog. Here you will find a selection of our favourite Corsica walks and hikes, as tried and tested by us, a wandering family.

Walks in Corsica

Feliceto to Lumio

Village to village, in the Balagne, you will discover a land of perched villages backed by high mountains.

La Tonnara to Fenu, Figari

Not an easy going stroll, the path is little defined and not as flat as you would expect. This walk is windswept, through rough coastal rocks, and untouched.

La Rocca & L’Arche de Cauro, Cauro

A short “off the beaten track” walk to a rocky summit and a stone arch, not far from Ajaccio. We have since doing this walk been advised that the trail crosses private land and the route is therefore out of bounds.

Bocca di Cuccavera, Evisa

Less trodden than the Aitone valley, this is a circular walk that has a little bit of everything from beautiful pine tree forests, and views of the west coast of Corsica.

Capu Pertusato, Bonifacio

Out of this world walk, beach to beach, towards the lighthouse at PERTUSATO with magnificent clifftop views. Great out of season but not for the feint hearted !

La Testa to Ventilegne, Figari

An easy going flat walk along the south western coast of the island, with surprising landscapes. La Testa is an unspoilt area full of wild beaches, protected by the Conservatoire du Littorale. You will see traces of the pastoral history of the area and take your binoculars if you are a twitcher.

Capu Rumanilu & Capu Pertusato, Bonifacio

Easy cliff walk towards the lighthouse at PERTUSATO with magnificent views of BONIFACIO, the cliffs and Sardinia across the water. This walk can be adapted from an easy stroll to a more challenging hike. Great at any time of year.

La Trinité to Fenu, Bonifacio

A good loop walk around a wild stretch of coast, you’ll enjoy this walk for the good views and the sense of away from it all just a short hop from the bustle of Bonifacio.

Sant Antonino to Occi and Lumio

From the perched hill village of SANT ANTONINO, this walk crosses through the garden of Corsica following easy paths and lanes. Towards the end of the walk you discover the abandoned village of OCCI, before diving down to LUMIO with its panoramic view over Calvi bay.

Lodu to Saleccia, Agriates

Lodu and Saleccia, who needs the Seychelles…? The Desert des Agriates stretches from Saint Florent in the North, to Ostriconi. The area is arid, with low maquis, that meets the coast at some of the most paradisiac beaches on the island. You can catch a boat (MAY TO SEPT) to the beach at LODU,

Sentier des Douaniers, St Florent to Lodu

Another great coastal walk, take care in hot weather as there is little shade. The tower at Mortella was partially destroyed by a bombardement by the British fleet. So impressed by the structure, Nelson suggested the building of MORTELLLO towers on the south coast of England.

Sentier des Douaniers, Maccinaggio

Follow the Customs officers path or ‘chemin des douaniers’ around the remote Cap Corse, along which you pass naturally preserved beaches and abandoned watchtowers witness to the battles that were fought for this island. The walking is captivating through a wild and natural landscape, and you can catch a boat (MAY TO SEPT) at end of the day to MACCINAGGIO.

Col de la Croix to Bussaghia, Osani / Porto

This is quite simply a fabulous, relatively secret (ssshhh) coastal walk along the GOLFE DE PORTO. You have to keep your eyes on the terrain, which is sometimes steep sea cliffs – not ideal for those with vertigo, but the views are sublime out over the Golfe.

Le Chemin du Facteur, Osani

A classic coastal walk into the remote seaside hamlet of GIROLATA. Very popular with walkers, it is in all the guidebooks and it is best to avoid this one in high season. It is a hot walk, but can be shortened by taking the boat out of GIROLATA instead.

Capu di Muro, Coti Chiavari

A tower, a lighthouse, a chapel, a farmstead, a maquis covered, windswept headland, a superb picnic spot, just a short drive from Ajaccio “wild and free” walking at its best.

La Revellata, Calvi

A lovely and relatively easy going walk onto the Revellata peninsula, through unspoilt maritime maquis, all the way to the lighthouse above the Oceanographic centres. This walk is fabulous in spring, when the flowering maquis is heady, and the trail quiet.

Punta Serradu, Altagène

Easy going and extremely pastoral walk around the Serradu Plateau, with panoramic views over the Alta Rocca. Great views of the whole of the Alta Rocca, just watch out for wild boar in the woods!

Foret d’Aitone, Evisa

This is a wonderfully varied walk from the high road col at Vergio, down through the Aitone forest to the mountain village of Evisa. Really away from it all and great at any time of year. Can be linked with Golo Valley walking.

Vallée du Golu, Vergio

This is a short walk that will take you into the GOLU valley. You will see hikers on the famous GR20 two week trail heading to their next refuge. There is a shepherd’s cabin called RADULE, the GOLU river and a beautiful pine tree forest.

Tour d’Ominga, Cargese

This Genoese tower is called the tour d’OMIGNA, much lower than either of its neighbours, the path is coastal and easygoing and can be done in a couple of hours. The tower has been restored by the Conservatoire du Littoral and the path is well trodden.

Strada Vecchia to Paragan, Bonifacio

A STRADA VECCHIA is a great stroll along the clifftops from BONIFACIO. The first section takes you on the old pilgrim route to La Trinité Hermitage and to the PARAGAN beach, you then double back to the cove at FAZZIO, before skirting around the cliffs to the MADONETTE lighthouse, with views back to BONIFACIO.

Capu Rossu & Tour de Turghia, Piana

The Tour de Turghiu, it is built on a tremendous promontory of rose pink granite that soars out of the clear blue Mediterranean waters. The walk is unusual and quite unique in its genre, lots of down hill at the start and uphill at the end. But it is certainly a wow factor and has to be up there as one of the best walks in Corsica. Sea and mountains,…
